Nail Ballin' On A Budget

Spring 2013 Lacquer Dupes

As seen on the latest fashion icons and celebs, everyone (who is anyone) is stepping out on the scene this spring (yea it rhymes…lol) with prints intoxicated with nudes, neon, animal patterns, black and white combos, spikes, studs and pastels. No, I’m not talking clothes! These prints and embellishments can be found plastered all over NAILS! WHATTTT! So if you’re like me, you want to be hip to the latest trends, but on a REAL DEAL non-existent budget! (Yea I’m a recent college grad and totally feeling the pinch). However, that doesn’t keep me from browsing the aisles with wishful thinking. Upon scouring Sally’s Beauty Supply, I came across the spring 2013China Glaze colors called ‘Blooming Bright’s’ and ‘Pastel Petals’ making up the ‘Avant Garden’ collection.  I was amazed at the pigment choices available, and even more amazed at the prices ($7 each). Yes, that’s quite reasonable for the quality, but dare I remind you of my budget. So, I decided to keep it moving. Eventually, I came across the spring 2013Butter London collection, and let’s just say I was in pastel heaven. The colors so reminded me of Easter and just happy thoughts. I loved the pigments until I saw the price, $15 a bottle, yea totally not happening today. Then a few days later while picking up a few toiletries at Dollar General, I came across a stand with L.A. Colors Color Craze collection, and guess what, they had pastels. I was like these are so pretty and great dupes for the China Glaze and Butter London collections. So I picked up about 7 lacquers ($1 each, how great is that!) and decided to swatch them to show how concentrated the colors are. The lacquers are really great and can be easily paired with any outfit. On average a basic manicure will last between 1½- 2 wks. on natural nails, so I would suggest buying a more expensive base and top coat, like Seche Vita, for better adhesion and longevity. However, the L.A. Colors base and top coats will work just fine.
So, if you have a hot date or just want to look trendy on any given day, I would suggest buying these dupes. You can paint them yourself, or take them to your favorite nail tech! Maybe they can add some stones and spikes to jazz up your look for this spring!
