Jones in my Bones

One of my favorite movies is Love Jones! I’m not sure, but I think that the poem that Lorenz Tate uses to seduce Nia Long sold me. Well naturally, after the poem, my focus was mostly on the brown lip combo that Nia Long wore throughout the movie. It is my favorite, because it added a lot of depth and mystery to her character. Therefore, I recreated the lip and paired it with a brown smoky copper eye.

First, I started by applying an eyeshadow primer (E.L.F.-sheer) and an eyeshadow base (NYX-White) all over the lid and up into the crease. Then I applied Oktoberfest (C.S. Hot Pots) above and into the crease. After I blended the color and achieved the pigmentation I desired, I added C.S. Wild Raisin to the crease and blended it into the Oktoberfest. Once all the eyeshadows were blended, I added C.S. Copper Pot to the lid. In order to open my eyes, I applied C.S. Lemon Chiffon to the inner corners of my eyes. Finally, I applied my usual winged eyeliner and Stardell lashes in #113.  For the face, I only applied a small amount of MAC MSF and E.L.F. bronzers.

Now on to the main focus, the lips. Using KleanColor lip liner in Expresso, I outlined and filled in my lips halfway. Then I applied E.L.F.s Tea Rose matte lipstick all over to blend out the harshness of the lip pencil. Lastly, I applied Wet n’ Wild’s Bare It All to the center of the lips to achieve somewhat of an ombre' effect.

I hope you enjoy this look. PLEASE comment and subscribe to my blog! See you guys next time!

Review: ShopmissA.com

How often is it that you get 100% human eyelashes, jewelry, lipsticks and many other fabulous things for $1? *Pause I’ll wait* Yep, not very often. So when I heard about ShopMissA. Com, I had to place an order. The shipping was fast and everything I received was great quality. I ordered mostly cosmetics, of course, and EYELASHES galore! I've placed three orders with them and haven’t been disappointed thus far. All the products on the website are great stocking stuffers and Secret Santa gifts for the holidays. Below, I decided to swatch lip liners and lipsticks from my latest purchase. I really love everything I've gotten and will continue to purchase from them as long as it remains $1. HAHA!

Winter Berry on the ROCKS

Do you have a color that you love so much, you basically live for it? Well apparently I do because majority of my makeup blogs contains purple! Yikes! Then again, purple is the color of royalty. Anyway, I was inspired by the winter berry ornaments that are put out each Christmas season. They are made in a variety of colors, but my favorites are the purple berries with imitation snow and glitter on them.  I was so excited when I saw the berries that I decided to create this look and call it Winter Berry on the Rocks because of the glitter! I hope you enjoy this it. Please tag me if you recreate it.  Have a blessed Christmas!

Therefore keeping with the trend, I added various hues of matte purples to the inner and outer lid space and a metallic shimmer to the middle for contrast. RiRi Loves M.A.C. Collection

Can you keep a secret? Did you know that RiRi has decided to make her presence known in the makeup industry by introducing the Rihanna Loves M.A.C. Collection? (0_o Jaw Drops!!!) Yes the 4 collections are set to debut throughout 2013 all of which includes eyelashes, makeup brushes, eyeshadows, lipglasses and much more. The first of 31 pieces, RiRi Woo, was introduced online exclusively a week ago and sold out in less than 3 hours. Along with RiRi Woo (a rendition of Ruby Woo), two other lipsticks, RiRi Boy and Heaux, and Barbados Girl Lustre Drops and Hibiscus Kiss Blush/Bronzer Duo will debut in June.  Personally, my wish list includes the Lustre Drops (which will have you shining bright like a diamond) and RiRi Boy lipstick. I am hyped about what is yet to come from RiRi and M.A.C. What about you?

First OOTD

Plus-Size Edition

I’m NOT built to suit a fashion model size; but rather PLUS SIZE. Ok so last night I went on a dinner date with some friends to catch up. And if you didn’t know, I love to look jazzy and get dolled up; but since I haven’t went out in a while, I decided to add a little extra to my everyday casual look. I wanted to incorporate some cool vibrant spring tones, but some darkness to add drama.  Therefore, I decided to rock a neon “Passion for Fashion” tee found on the clearance rack at Old Navy, paired with a navy blue skater type skirt from Target.  Usually I’m a heels type of girl, but today my feet were not feeling it! So I decided to sport some floral print sandals from Shoe Land.  I did simply accessories to accentuate the look. And as for makeup, I decided to use Ka’Oir lipstick in Racquel paired with Cabernet lip liner from Jordana.  I was feeling myself, just a little!

SCREAMING: I have HOODED eyelids

Makeup Confessional

Ok, so the other day I was getting so frustrated with doing my makeup! I was thinking to myself, “Why isn’t my makeup giving me LIFE (why isn't it achieving professional MUA’s status)?” Yes I know I’m not a professional (yet) and I’m still practicing, but all of the looks I was creating and recreating were horrible.  Then I came to the conclusion I have BEDROOM EYES! Yea, I can stop a man in his tracks with these eyes! LOL. Basically my eyes are what professionals call Hooded Eyelids. This is when the skin and/or fat, usually around the crease area, hangs over the eyelids causing them to be covered, and also in my case puffy. The two main causes are aging and being born with hooded eyelids. I felt so disappointed, and was considering surgery (spending imaginary money) to achieve the 'IDEAL" eyelid. So after careful research, I came across some diagrams and a few YouTube tutorials to help me (and those like-EYED) to understand eye shape and how to excentuate them.  One day I’ll consider making a tutorial about my SEDUCTIVE, VOLOUPTOUS BEDROOM EYES. But until then, enjoy what I’ve found!

P.S. Remember the only way to "per-fect" anything is to practice and make it work for you!Be on the look-out for more makeup pictures via Instagram and Facebook, and don’t forget to push that follow  and like button!

Lip Service: Muah

Lip Care for Lipstick Wearers!

Keyshia Ka'oir lipstick
in Night

Did you know that the Egyptians were the first to use minerals, berries and INSECTS to create cosmetics? Even men wore lipstick and nail lacquers (these were stains) before important battles. Recently, I’ve been digging the lipstick color selections from Mac, Maybelline, Revlon, Wet N’ Wild and everybody in between. Therefore, I purchased a few including 24 CarrotGold, Think Pink, and Sugar Plum Fairy from Wet N’ Wild Mega Last Lip Colors and Hot Plum from Maybelline’s Vivid Collection, just to name a few. I’m not a late bloomer when it comes to lipstick (since I wore black for the longest), but with beautiful scrumptious looking lips, comes uneven, dry and sometimes flaky skin. Ugh, so nasty! Allegedly drinking plenty of water will keep them moisturized, but my lips have a mind of their own. So while rummaging through moms cosmetic bag, I found an exfoliator by BeautiControl called Skinlogic LipApeel. It contains a line peel along with a lip balm in a 1.25oz container. Exfoliators remove dead skin cells and leave your skin feeling silky smooth. I would totally suggest purchasing the lip apeel. But, another alternative is E.L.F.’sCosmetic Lip Exfoliator. It is new and I have yet to try it, but Makeupby Jo did a review on it and she was very pleased. Plus it was only $3, so you can’t get any better than that! So while packing on the color to achieve perfect pouty lips, remember to drink plenty of water, moisturize (with Baby Lips) and get a good lip exfoliator. But most of all stay KISSABLE! MUAH!

I Love Summer, That's My Freakin' Problem

2013 Unique DIY Curvy Girl Swim Wear

Summer Jams. Block Parties. Tankinis and Beaches!  Summer is almost here, and I’m oober
doober excited! (Especially since I’ll be turning 23!) So this summer I want doober excited! (Especially since I’ll be turning 23!) So this summer I want to celebrate by lounging on the beach sipping (Yes, ladies sip…lol) on a Blue Hawaiian and listening to some reggae (I’m a Rasta type of girl). But my curves can’t look any type of way! I need the perfect outfit!  So I decided to browse the internet to see what they had to offer. There were lots of swimsuits, but most were too gran-ish for me (what’s the purpose of having curves, if I can’t flaunt them every now and then). Then, I stumbled upon Monif C website, not by chance though, since I had been following her since I first saw her on BET’s Rip the Runway. What she creates is ABSOLTUELY fabulous and her new Island Gypsy 2013 Swimsuit Collection is the bomb.com, but those prices are out my league. So like usual, I kept it moving. Then I came across the Liz Clairborne High Waist Control Bottom (size 14-24 in red and black) for $20 at JC Penny’s and also the High Waist Shaping Bottom (size s-xl in black only) at Walmart for $16. I was like this is so awesome; I can create unique swim wear for this summer.  Then I was like I need a top, and not just any kind, but a bandeau. Bandeaus were all the rave last summer and their here again for summer 2013. So I decided to search YouTube on instructions on how to create my own. What I found was PassionJonesz video on creating this look from a scarf and also Luvableviet and SecretLifeOfaBioNerd videos on sewing a top from fabric. However, you can also just buy a pattern from your local fabric store if that's easier for you. So this summer dare to be different and rock a custom bandeau with a high waist bottom. I most definitely will be doing  so! And don't forget to browse the thrift store for accessories and unconventional coverups to add statement to your already stunning outfit. Watch out summer 2013 here I come!!!!

Nail Ballin' On A Budget

Spring 2013 Lacquer Dupes

As seen on the latest fashion icons and celebs, everyone (who is anyone) is stepping out on the scene this spring (yea it rhymes…lol) with prints intoxicated with nudes, neon, animal patterns, black and white combos, spikes, studs and pastels. No, I’m not talking clothes! These prints and embellishments can be found plastered all over NAILS! WHATTTT! So if you’re like me, you want to be hip to the latest trends, but on a REAL DEAL non-existent budget! (Yea I’m a recent college grad and totally feeling the pinch). However, that doesn’t keep me from browsing the aisles with wishful thinking. Upon scouring Sally’s Beauty Supply, I came across the spring 2013China Glaze colors called ‘Blooming Bright’s’ and ‘Pastel Petals’ making up the ‘Avant Garden’ collection.  I was amazed at the pigment choices available, and even more amazed at the prices ($7 each). Yes, that’s quite reasonable for the quality, but dare I remind you of my budget. So, I decided to keep it moving. Eventually, I came across the spring 2013Butter London collection, and let’s just say I was in pastel heaven. The colors so reminded me of Easter and just happy thoughts. I loved the pigments until I saw the price, $15 a bottle, yea totally not happening today. Then a few days later while picking up a few toiletries at Dollar General, I came across a stand with L.A. Colors Color Craze collection, and guess what, they had pastels. I was like these are so pretty and great dupes for the China Glaze and Butter London collections. So I picked up about 7 lacquers ($1 each, how great is that!) and decided to swatch them to show how concentrated the colors are. The lacquers are really great and can be easily paired with any outfit. On average a basic manicure will last between 1½- 2 wks. on natural nails, so I would suggest buying a more expensive base and top coat, like Seche Vita, for better adhesion and longevity. However, the L.A. Colors base and top coats will work just fine.
So, if you have a hot date or just want to look trendy on any given day, I would suggest buying these dupes. You can paint them yourself, or take them to your favorite nail tech! Maybe they can add some stones and spikes to jazz up your look for this spring!
